Nutrition

A well-balance diet plus regular exercise will result in a healthy body. A good meal containing slow release carbohydrates will provide the necessary "fuel" for a ride out on your bike. Allow sufficient time for it to be digested, at least an hour.

To stop "the tank from running empty", sports drinks containing quick release carbohydrates and minerals can be taken.

We supply several brands of scientifically formulated drinks for you to carry along on your ride.

Always remember to read the label and follow the instructions

In addition, we stock "energy bars" containing glucose and other sugars. We do not advocate eating these whilst riding unless you have acquired sufficient bike-handling skills.

Healthy Exercise.

Cycling is a very efficient form of exercise and unlike jogging does not stress the knees and hip joints. It is also an activity which can be carried on for several hours, in company, and you also have the opportunity of appreciating the scenery.

Moderately paced miles on a bike burn off fat, the fat stored in your body tissues. It is therefore an excellent way of reducing weight. Racing and training draw heavily on the sugars stored in the liver, therefore tearing around the countryside may make you fitter, but it is not an effective way of losing pounds (or kilos).

All our frames have "bosses" welded to the tubes allowing bottle cages to be fitted. You should always carry some water with you on a long ride, especially in Summer. However, even in Winter the body can dehydrate. If you have two cages, carry two bottles, one with water, the other containing an energy drink. Again, only drink on the move, if it is safe to do so.

If you have a medical condition, it is prudent to consult your GP before indulging in any exercise.
